Patient Engagement

Patient engagement is about putting patients at the heart of hospital services. We believe that people have a right to be actively involved in decisions that affect their lives and well being. This trust listens to and involves patients, carers and the public in all aspects of hospital activity. You have the opportunity to get involved in decisions about your healthcare and influence the services you use. This includes:

  • Involving individuals in their care.
  • Involving patients, carers and the public in the planning and
    development of services.
  • Health matters: This is a series of free evening lectures, aimed at improving public knowledge on hot health topics. The lectures are held at Macclesfield District General Hospital, blue zone, Education and Training lecture theatre from 7.00 - 8.00pm.
  • National surveys: The Care Quality Commission oversees a national programme of surveys across all health trusts. Results are received for each individual trust and trusts are then benchmarked against each other. View the results of these surveys on the Care Quality Commission’s website.
  • Local surveys: East Cheshire NHS Trust runs a full programme of local surveys.
  • Patient information: East Cheshire NHS Trust is committed to producing patient health information of a high standard. Find out more here about patient information and interpretation and translation
  • Public consultations: The trust’s aim is to engage with the local community on an ongoing basis. However, formal consultation on service change is necessary at times.
  • Get involved: The trust seeks to involve people in local and national public consultations, however, there is also an ongoing programme of engagement with the local community, where the trust works with patients and the public to develop its strategies and policies. Local Involvement Network - Stronger voice, better care

The Cheshire East LINk (CELINk) came into force on 1 April 2009 and
is an independent statutory body made up of individual members and
organisations who want to improve health and social care services in
East Cheshire. The LINk can ask for information and has the statutory
right to receive a reply within twenty working days.

It can give feedback and make recommendations. The LINk has close ties with the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and has the power of referral to
Overview and Scrutiny Committee if they have concerns which they feel
organisations are not addressing. Trained authorised representatives of
LINk have the right to enter and view premises within health and social
care. An enter and view may be an announced or unannounced visit. The
names of the authorised representatives are posted on the LINk website as
are the reports on visits undertaken.
