Who are we?

The team at the Victoria Breast Centre is made up of specialist breast radiologists, mammographers, assistant practitioners, mammography assistants and clerical staff. We are a multidisciplinary team that meets once a week with the consultant surgeons, pathologists and breast care nurses to discuss treatment options for patients.

What do we do?

NHS Breast Screening Programme

The NHS Breast Screening Programme provides routine screening mammography for women aged between 50 - 70 every three years. All women in this age range who are registered with a GP, are invited to come when their GP practice is called. We cover the Macclesfield area including some parts of Congleton and Knutsford and we also screen ladies from the Stockport area at a mobile screening unit which moves around to various locations in Stockport.

Women who are found to require further tests as a result of their screening are invited back to the Victoria Breast Centre for further tests and are seen by a consultant specialist breast radiologist. We invite approximately 64,000 women for screening mammography over a three year period.

Symptomatic breast service

The Victoria Breast Centre also provides a symptomatic service. We currently provide imaging for three rapid access clinics once a week, which are conducted by three consultant breast surgeons. They are seen by a surgeon who requests any imaging tests which may be required. The tests are carried out and the results are sent to the surgeon who can then give the patient the results of the investigations at the same clinic visit.
