Our Services

Complementary therapies

In the Macmillan Cancer Resource Centre we offer complementary therapies to cancer patients and also to their carers. Complementary therapies are generally viewed as treatments which are given alongside the conventional cancer treatments, such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormonal treatment. Generally speaking, complementary therapies such as relaxation and gentle massage, can help people feel better and cope better with their illness.

Massage

Our therapies

Currently, we offer the following:

  • Reflexology: A deeply relaxing therapy. Gentle massage of the feet induces deep relaxation and rest. This technique can help encourage the body's natural healing qualities and help relax the mind.
  • Holistic facial: A facial cleanse followed by a specialised massage to suit the needs of the individual.
  • Aromatherapy: A gentle massage of chosen areas which combines the therapeutic properties of lavender essential oil with the benefit of massage.
  • Indian head massage: A relaxing therapy which involves the massage of the upper back, neck, head and face. It can be performed over clothing.
  • Reiki:  All these include massage in different ways. Massage is a natural way of encouraging both mental and physical relaxation. It may help to ease muscular tension, improve joint flexibility and relieve aches and pains caused by tight, tense muscles.
