The Day Case Unit is a self contained unit with one theatre, open Monday to Friday. The opening times vary from 7.30am - 7.00pm or 9.00pm. It is a bright unit and has a calming affect on you. We aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible and are open to any suggestions on how to improve your stay.
Patients undergoing general and local anaesthetics are nursed on the unit.
On each shift you will be cared for by two qualified and one unqualified member of staff. The unit has morning, afternoon and evening lists.
Each day has different specialities which are urology, ophthalmology, maxcial facial, gynaecological, ear nose and throat, orthopaedic and general surgery.
On arrival to unit your relative will be given a time to ring to enable the staff to given them an update and also the time we will be looking to discharge you home.
The advantages of day surgery are to ensure that as little disruption occurs with in your day and you go home following the procedure.
It is stipulated though that if you have a general anaesthetic you do need to have somebody with you for the first 24 hours.
You can ask any member of staff any query and they will endeavour to answer your question. If they cannot they will pass you onto someone who will be able to help you.
