About the unit

Patients undergoing Day Case procedures requiring either local or general anaesthetic are nursed on the unit. On each shift you will be cared for by two qualified nurses and one health care assistant.
The unit caters for a wide range of specialities which include general surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedics, ear nose & throat, urology, opthalmology and maxillofacial.

On arrival to the unit your relative will be given a time to ring for an update and also to be given a time for your planned discharge home so arrangements can be made to collect you.
The advantages of day surgery ensure there is minimal disruption to your day and you are able to be discharged as soon as is safely possible following your procedure.
It is stipulated though that if you have a general anaesthetic you do need to have somebody with you for the first 24 hours.
