Minor Injuries Unit

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is located at Congleton War Memorial Hospital and treats patients with minor injuries such as:

• Minor burns
• Cuts
• Minor foreign body removal, ie splinters
• Sprains
• Minor finger dislocations

The unit

The Minor Injuries Unit is staffed by Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENP) who have access to clinical support from consultants.

Our staff

The role of the ENP has expanded in recent years, they have skills to enable them to assess, treat and discharge patients who have uncomplicated problems. They can request x-rays, supply medicines (particularly pain relief), suture and take blood samples.  

When you arrive at the unit

When you arrive at the unit you will be assessed by an ENP who will determine the nature of your illness or injury. You may be sent for an x-ray and/or might be given some medicines to relieve any pain. However, if your injury is severe you will be referred to the Accident and Emergency Department at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

Opening times

Monday - Friday: 10.00am - 6.00pm

Saturday - Sunday and bank holidays: 8.00am - 8.30pm
