Our Services

The OphthalmologEyesy Department

The Ophthalmology Department at Macclesfield District General Hospital provides a comprehensive and efficient outpatient and surgical service to the local community and beyond. There are a team of specialists who look after the patients in our care. The four consultants are supported by a specialist group of ophthalmic trained nursing staff and opthoptists who all make every effort to ensure patients receive first class care.

Many conditions are treated within the outpatient department including general eye examinations and special tests, assessment and treatment of glaucoma, oculoplastic, medical retina with diabetes, lacrimal, paediatric and squint. If surgery is required most conditions are treated under local anaesthetic allowing patients to recover in their own home.

If you need to be seen very quickly we offer emergency referrals between 9.00am and 5.00pm from Monday to Friday. Outside of these times there is no specialist eye doctor who can see patients who need to be seen immediately and during those times patients would need to attend the eye department at Leighton Hospital, Crewe.
