Our Services

Pathology

The Pathology laboratory of East Cheshire NHS Trust is situated at Macclesfield District General Hospital. The department has formed a collaborative working partnership, Cheshire Pathology Services, with Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) for the provision of pathology services across the two sites. MCHFT is the legal entity through which the Division of Diagnostics and Clinical Support Services manages pathology.

Petri dish testing

We are based in a newly built laboratory in the Cooper Building with a separate mortuary facility located within the main hospital. The Phlebotomy Service is situated in the blood test department on the ground floor of the main hospital building. Our services offer a comprehensive range of pathology investigations plus a full clinical service in all pathology disciplines.

Our services

Pathology has in place a quality management system which endeavours to ensure that all processes within the department are handled in such a way as to promote quality and reduce risk. All of our laboratories comply with standards for the medical laboratory set by Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd and are committed to providing a safe high quality service to our users. The department participates in a wide range of internal and external quality assurance programmes, including national schemes.

The department provides both an emergency and non-urgent diagnostic service for inpatients and outpatients as well as a service to patients under the care of General Practitioners in the region. Tests we are unable to perform on site are referred to laboratories who uphold equivalent quality standards.

We provide the following services:
