Medicines information

Medicines Information Services provides support, education and specialist advice to all patients, the Pharmacy Team and all other healthcare professionals working for East Cheshire Trust. It also provides medicines information for patients in the community and GPs on an ad-hoc basis.

It is critical in promoting the safe and effective use of medicines.

The pharmacists providing this service are experienced in answering questions on all aspects of drug therapy.

Upon receiving an enquiry, the medicines information pharmacist will ask some questions to determine the nature of your enquiry. It is important that you as the enquirer give as much relevant information as possible.

The answer you will receive is based upon impartial, current and up to date information, which is evidence based. The sources of information are mainly electronic databases but include previous knowledge and experience as well as paper-based sources. Depending on the nature of the enquiry, the medicines information pharmacist may need to interpret the information, as each answer is tailored to the specific needs of the enquirer.

It is critical that the information given out is accurate, as this may have a direct influence on clinical decisions relating to patient care.

The Medicines Information Service at Macclesfield District General Hospital is provided Monday - Friday between the hours of 9.00am - 5.00pm. Emergency medicines information is available to hospital staff through the Pharmacy out of hours service.
