Sexual health services in East Cheshire

Our services

East Cheshire NHS Trust provides sexual health services across eastern and central Cheshire, commissioned by Cheshire East Council. 
 
Our dedicated clinic, the East Cheshire Centre for Sexual Health at Macclesfield District General Hospital offers the following free, confidential, non-judgemental services:
  • Screening, free treatment, contact tracing and counselling for all sexually transmitted infections including HIV and hepatitis  
  • Hep B vaccination in indicated cases
  • Holistic management of HIV positive clients including blood monitoring and  anti-HIV treatment
  • Post exposure prophylaxis following sexual and occupational exposure to HIV
  • Management of sexual assault cases
  • Management of genital skin conditions
  • Contraceptive services, including IUD/IUS/implant insertion/removal and smear tests
  • Natural family planning
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Smear tests
  • Emergency contraception
  • Pregnancy advisory services (provided by South Manchester private clinic)
  • All patients from any area are welcome to attend the service
  • People of all ages are welcome, including under 16s
  • All clinics are staffed by experienced nurses/doctors
  • All clinics are drop-in – no appointment necessary (a second visit is usually required for IUD/IUS/implant procedures)

Community clinics also offer contraception, pregnancy tests, smear tests, free condoms and chlamydia/gonorrhoea screening at the following locations:

Our departmental objectives

  • We aim to reduce the prevalence of STIs and encourage patients to be tested regularly.
  • Reduce unplanned pregnancy rates.
  • Provide a holistic service to patients and offer a comprehensive choice of contraception.

 All services are free and confidential through self-referral.

Patients aged between 16 and 24 years can visit our main sexual health website - www.gosexualhealth.co.uk - to request a free postal kit to test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

Team Chlamydia, New Alderley House, Macclesfield District General Hospital

The team offer Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea testing on a simple urine sample or swab to all patients aged between 15 and 24 years. The service is free and confidential and a nurse is available to offer advice and signpost patients if necessary.
