Special Needs Nursing Service

The Special Needs Nursing Service is a team of qualified nurses and health care assistants dedicated to providing clinical support to children and young adults with complex health needs, within the special schools across Central and Eastern Cheshire.

The Special Needs Nursing Service work in partnership with school staff, Social Services, CAMHS, learning disabilites, paediatricians, GP’s, Continence Service and physiotherapists to support the special needs of the children, families and carers.

We deal with common health problems, the management of continence needs and advice regarding products and training of school staff, parents and carers around specific nursing needs for example management of a child suffering a seizure when on a school trip.

Our departmental objectives

The aim of the Special Needs Nursing Service is to maintain and promote the health of children and young people ranging from 2 - 19 years of age within the education setting, thus enabling them to reach their full potential despite their disability.

The Special Needs Nursing Service is committed to providing advice and support in many areas.

Our services

As well as providing care plans and health needs assessments to meet the needs of each individual child, we provide treatment within the school setting with minimal impact on education. Some of these treatments include gastrostomy care, bladder care, and the administration of medication. Emergency care is also provided when needed. 

Opening times

Term time only 8.00am - 18.00pm

Night nurse cover: Monday –Thursday 21.30pm - 8.00am residential unit
