I trained on the West Yorkshire Registrar Rotation at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and St James University Hospital Leeds, and on the NorthWest Senior Registrar Rotation in Blackburn,Prestonand at Salford Royal.

I have a number of research interests, and undertook a research post looking specifically into the risks and benefits of different methods of treating periods MISTLETOE & VALUE studies looking at the different methods of endometrial ablation and hysterectomy (abdominal, laparoscopic and vaginal).

I also undertook research into Testosterone replacement for women within HRT.

Paraurethral urinary incontinence procedures (macroplastique).


Professional career - I was appointed to his consultant post at Macclesfield in 1999. While at Macclesfield, I have been heavily involved in teaching and training doctors and midwives and for five years was College Tutor.  Following this I spent five years as Clinical Director for Women’s and Children’s Services.

Conditions treated

Mr Hall practices both obstetrics and gynaecology and is an advanced practitioner of hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery (RCOG certified), and a highly skilled vaginal surgeon. 

He uses these skills to help patients obtain the treatment outcomes they wish.  This is especially important in for women with pelvic pain, period problems and prolapse as there are a range of treatment available.

His main areas of interest in gynaecology are women with period problems (fibroids/endometriosis) and women with pelvic pain (ovarian cysts/endometriosis) and abnormal smears.

Areas of interest in obstetrics include early pregnancy problem (abnormal fetal scans/miscarriage), screening for Down’s syndrome (nuchal scans/amniocentesis) and twin pregnancy and other high risk pregnancy’s.

Treatment of Adnexal Pathology

  • Laparoscopic cystectomy (removal of ovarian cysts)

Perform hysteroscopic fibroid removal, endometrial resections, resection of uterine septum and endometrial ablations (balloon and microwave).

Perform laparoscopic surgery on stage 4 endometriosis, laparoscopic myomectomies, laparoscopic adhesiolysis (including bowel), laparoscopic tubal surgery and laparoscopic prolapse surgery.

Special interest in vaginal surgery, in excess of 85% of all hysterectomies performed vaginally.  Happy to perform hysterectomies by bisection, coning and perform vaginal myomectomies. Ovaries are routinely removed vaginally, when necessary.


Outpatient and inpatient services


Weekly colposcopy clinic to investigation and treat of abnormal smears. Practice 'see and treat' or 'see and return to treat', and routine surveillance. Colposcopic treatment – LLETZ or loop, in excess of 300 examinations performed a year.

 Colposcopy - BSCCP/RCOG certified trainer.

Outpatient Abnormal Bleeding Clinic

One stop clinic where Mr Hall investigates women with irregular or heavy periods, or postmenopausal bleeding, with an ultrasound scan and a tiny telescope which is used to view the inside of the womb.

Ultrasound Scanning Clinic

Obstetric ultrasound clinic, for women with abnormal fetal scans.  Perform in excess of 80 amniocentesis a year.

Antenatal clinic

For women with high risk and low risk pregnancies where medical opinion needed, Mr Hall commonly sees women with pregnancies;

  • where the mother has a medical problem during her pregnancy such as thyroid disease, high blood pressure, obstetric cholestasis, rhesus disease etc.
  • where the baby is thought to have a problem i.e. the baby is small, breech, known to have an abnormality, etc
  • where there is a multiple pregnancy twins or triplets
  • where the mother has a previous history that indicates there may be a problem in subsequent pregnancies, i.e. previous premature labour, stillbirth, severe preeclampsia, etc 

Gynaecology clinic

for women with all types of gynaecological problem, the  most commonly symptoms are;


  • Painful or heavy periods, irregular or frequent periods,
  • Pain or bleeding with sex.
  • Absent or infrequent periods.
  • In inability to become pregnant, investigations and treatment of subfertility.
  • The feeling of some thing coming down i.e. prolapse of the uterus or vaginal wall, which may be associated with urinary incontinence.
  • Urinary leakage
  • Excessive hair growth, or weight gain or oily skin, PCOS
  • Problems with hormone replacement.

Fitting of Mirena coils, vaginal pessaries, and hormone implants as well as minor surgery are all also undertaken as outpatients
