Grateful mum's £2k fundraising for new breast pump on MDGH Children's Ward
26 April 2019

A mum whose baby struggled to feed after being diagnosed with congenital heart defects at just two weeks old has helped other parents by purchasing a new state-of-the-art breast pump.
Sarah’s son was a frequent patient on the Children’s Ward in his first weeks of life and had to undergo heart surgery at Alder Hey.

Sarah set up a crowdfunding page for a second breast pump for the ward to complement the existing dated but functional machine and £2,000 later, she kindly donated a Symphony pump, trolly stand, bottle holder and different sized breast shields to the ward. The new pump has increased functionality which helps mothers express milk easily, including adjustable cycles that help to mimic a baby's feeding pattern.

Sarah said: “On behalf of all the amazing people who have donated, we are delighted to present this breast pump and full range of different sized breast shields to the Children’s Ward. We hope this will be a huge blessing to many mums and their babies. Having the right feeding support is crucial for mothers and it is brilliant to hear how the Children’s Ward are really supporting mothers and their babies in their breastfeeding journey.

“We are so grateful to the wonderful staff on the ward and the children’s community nursing team for our son’s swift diagnosis and for the excellent care he received. Thank you!”
