Volunteers have an important role in enhancing the experience of our patients and complementing the work of our staff.
Below are some stories from trust volunteers regarding their experiences on volunteering with us at East Cheshire NHS Trust.
Sheila has undertaken various roles with us during her five years as a volunteer including lunchtime assistant on two different wards; facemask distributor during the COVID-19 response; and her current role which is front of house.
As part of her Health & Social Care 'A' level, Lucy needed to complete some volunteering and she was very keen to gain experience within the NHS. Lucy is loving her time at the trust.
Rob Stephenson is a retired GP who first came to Macclesfield hospital in 1985 on the GP training scheme. Rob now volunteers with us and helps entertain our patients as 'The Great Zanzito' magician.
Julie returned to the UK after living in Northern California for 22 years where she worked for a local community hospital where she enjoyed meeting and greeting patients. Julie decided to continue this fulfilling role in her retirement.
Mike volunteers on the welcome desk in the main entrance of the hospital. In a secondary volunteering role he delivers prescriptions from the Hospital Pharmacy to patients in their homes.
Sue has been volunteering for East Cheshire NHS Trust in the hospital main entrance Welcome Desk since October 2019. Sue loves her role and is kept busy interacting and helping patients and has also made new friends!
