Executive directors

Appointed: August 2021 

Ged has substantial experience in senior finance roles across a number of sectors, including NHS and local authority and emergency services. He has also held a number of director roles in public sector subsidiary companies. Previously trained as a retained firefighter giving him a good understanding of the challenges of operational firefighting. Ged is committed to ensuring staff and team development are maximised to support good patient care.  He is a passionate supporter of public services and the role they play in society.

Ged joined the trust in August 2021 as the Director of Finance, quickly adding Deputy Chief Executive responsibility to his portfolio. He stepped up as Acting Chief Executive in November 2021 at short notice, before being appointed as Chief Executive in June 2022.

Current roles and responsibilities

John joined the Trust in September 2000 as a consultant in anaesthetics with a special interest in critical care and was appointed as interim medical director in November 2014, before being appointed to the role permanently in May 2015. John is leading the development of the trust’s clinical strategy and is building collaborative partnerships with clinical leads in primary, community and secondary care settings, supporting and developing new models of care.

Kate has over 25 years experience as a registered nurse and began her career in 1997 as a ED nurse before becoming a Matron in 2007.

Kate has undertaken variety of senior nursing roles at both Salford Royal and Royal Bolton Hospitals before becoming Deputy Director of Nursing at Mid-Cheshire Hospitals in 2016.

In 2020 Kate was seconded to NHS England in Cheshire and Mersey in a commissioning role leading on the Learning Disabilities and Autism programme.

Kate is passionate about supporting and developing the workforce and improving patient experience through service development and co-production.

Lorraine has more than 30 years’ experience working within the NHS in both commissioning and provider organisations. 

She brings a vast amount of experience to her role and leads on trust governance, risk management, raising concerns (speaking up), communications and patient engagement, emergency preparedness, research governance, information governance, fire safety, security governance and health and safety.

Current roles/responsibilities

Simon was appointed in June 2020 having previously held Director roles in Operations, Transformation and Performance. He joined the NHS in 2008 from Spire Hospitals having worked in corporate functions supporting the national chain of hospitals. Simon has led a number of multi-organisation change programmes having worked in large acute hospitals across the North West, and leads on the delivery of the NHS key performance standards and the operational delivery of patient safety.

Current roles/responsibilities

Kara joined the Trust in November 2008 and has been Deputy Director of Finance since May 2017. Prior to this, she held a number of senior finance positions within the private and public sector. She chairs the national level three accounts assistant apprenticeship standards group and is passionate about supporting education and development.

She continually seeks ways to develop teams and individuals to be their best to support good patient care. Kara is a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) and has an MBA from Manchester Metropolitan University.


Sarah Jones, Executive PA / 01625 663462

Katherine Sheerin[Web].jpgKatherine has over 30 years’ experience in the NHS, starting her career as an auxiliary district nurse whilst at university before joining the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme.

She has significant experience of commissioning, working in various PCT and CCG Director roles across different systems, and as CCG Accountable Officer, designing and leading system-wide transformation programmes. Katherine is particularly interested in the wider determinants of health, and has led successful projects across health, employment and regeneration.

More recently, Katherine has worked in the provider sector, creating system-wide provider collaborative arrangements, both across acute providers and between acute, community, mental health and primary care.

Katherine has held national roles, including as a board member of NHS Clinical Commissioners and the National Association of Primary Care, as well as advising on the development of the Better Care Fund.
