Building work to commence on new learning and development centre at East Cheshire NHS Trust

25 July 2023

Work is due to commence this week on a new Learning and Development Centre for Trust staff and learners in the former NHS Cheshire CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) offices based in New Alderley House, Macclesfield Hospital. This exciting development has been made possible thanks to a large charitable donation to the organisation, specifically to support staff education and development.

The modern facility will relocate the Library and Knowledge Service from the 2nd floor, and will provide clinical simulation space, teaching rooms, a digital laboratory, plus quiet and collaborative spaces to support multi-disciplinary learning.

Wendy Barker, Head of Education, Learning and Development at East Cheshire NHS Trust said, “This fantastic development will provide a multi-professional space, accessible to all staff, on-site partners and student groups specifically to enhance our Trust’s education and training facilities and support our strategic aim of becoming a teaching hospital.

“Feedback from our 2022 staff survey, highlighted a desire from our employees for improved learning facilities so we are extremely grateful to the generous legacy donation to East Cheshire NHS Trust Charitable Funds which has enabled us to bring this project to life.”

Sonia Meadows, Learning and Development Innovation Lead at East Cheshire NHS Trust said, “Our Trust is committed to nurturing a culture that is people-centred, engaging and inclusive; in order to provide safe, effective and person-centred care. In developing this centre we hope to provide our NHS workforce of the future with state-of-the-art facilities whereby their skills and development can be fostered for the long-term health and benefit of our local communities.”

The centre is due to open in Winter 2023.
