East Cheshire NHS Trust appoints new Chief Executive

14 June 2022

Following an inclusive and thorough, competitive selection process, the trust is delighted to confirm that Ged Murphy, Acting Chief Executive, has been appointed as Chief Executive for East Cheshire NHS Trust.

Ged joined the trust in August 2021 as the Director of Finance, quickly adding Deputy Chief Executive responsibility to his portfolio. He stepped up as Acting Chief Executive in November 2021 at short notice.

Ged brings substantial strategic and transformational leadership experience, having held senior executive roles in the NHS and the fire service, the latter where he led a significant change agenda, whilst securing improvements for the communities he served. During his career, commencing in local government, he has undertaken Director roles in public sector subsidiary companies, successfully led a collaborative at regional level, benefiting work colleagues and local communities, and spent ten years in a national government advisory role.

Lynn McGill, Chair of the Board said, “I am delighted to confirm that Ged Murphy, Acting Chief Executive, has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive for East Cheshire NHS Trust.

“During the last six months, Ged’s visionary leadership and inclusive partnership working has been pivotal in realising the delivery of significant and key strategic priorities for the trust, which will have lasting benefits for patients, citizens and our work colleagues alike.

“Ged’s appointment serves to galvanise the trust’s leadership team, with a clear focus as we develop the trust’s strategy, whilst continuing important partnership work on the delivery of national priorities for health and care across the Cheshire East Place and the wider Cheshire and Merseyside and Greater Manchester integrated care systems.

“On behalf of the Trust Board, I would like to congratulate Ged on this thoroughly deserved appointment.”
