East Cheshire NHS Trust is delighted to announce that Anya Ahmed has been appointed to the role as Non-Executive Director

NHS England has confirmed the appointment of Anya Ahmed as a Non-Executive Director of East Cheshire NHS Trust.   

Working with Chair, Aislinn O’Dwyer, alongside the Trust’s Executive team, Anya will help the organisation to deliver the five-year Trust Strategy - ‘Our Healthy Future Together’.

Anya is currently Professor of Wellbeing and Communities and Academic Director of the Doctoral College at Manchester Metropolitan University. She is a social scientist with 28 years’ academic experience and was awarded a personal Chair in 2017. Anya’s prior professional experience include the roles as a social housing practitioner, trainer, and consultant. Anya has extensive board and committee membership in the social housing and voluntary sectors and was previously a Non-Executive Director at Merseycare NHS Trust.

Anya said: ‘Involving patients in health care and a commitment to inclusion and giving voice to all members of our society has shaped all of the research I've done as well as being important in my professional and personal life. I am very much looking forward to bringing my experience to East Cheshire NHS Trust and to playing my part in bringing the five-year strategy to life.”

Chair of East Cheshire NHS Trust’s Board, Aislinn O’Dwyer, said: “On behalf of the Board, we welcome Anya’s appointment as a Non-Executive Director. Anya is a compassionate, skilled, and values-driven senior leader with significant experience across a range of traditional and innovative academic activities related to research, enterprise, knowledge exchange and teaching and learning. Anya’s values strongly align with those of the NHS and she will bring expertise and support to the Trust.

“As a Board we look forward to working closely with Anya as we bring our strategy, which puts the communities we serve at the heart of all we do, to life. Anya’s academic background and experience also means that she would be able to support the Trust’s ambition to become a Teaching Hospital.”

Non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts are made by NHS England and made in accordance to the Governance Code for Public Appointments. NHS England ensure that all appointments to NHS trust boards are made in a way that is open, transparent and fair to candidates. 

Professor Anya Ahmed was appointed to ECT by NHSE following an open competition. She is appointed from 31 July 2023 to 30 July 2027. Remuneration is £13k per annum. She has declared no political activity in the last 5 years.
