Five dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurses working at Macclesfield Hospital are celebrating a major personal and professional milestone after officially graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Critical Care.
The graduates, Queenie Empleo, Aida Damiyan, Tess Vincent, Aparnna Jaimon, and Anu Antony, successfully completed the 60-credit postgraduate qualification while continuing to work delivering specialised care to the unit’s most vulnerable patients.
The nurses formally celebrated their academic success alongside family, friends, and university peers at a graduation ceremony held at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester in July.
Reflecting on their journey, the graduates expressed their gratitude to the wider unit, emphasising that the team's ongoing encouragement was crucial to helping them balance university deadlines with demanding hospital duties.
"Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement throughout our journey. We are truly grateful," said Anu and Aparnna.
Tess, Aida, and Queenie echoed the sentiment, adding, "A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for your incredible support throughout our Critical Care Course. We couldn't have done it without such an amazing, supportive team."
The course focuses on how critical illness affects the body, aligning national standards with practical bedside skills to give nurses a deeper understanding of complex organ failure, advanced life-support procedures, and emergency patient management.
Practice Educator at the Trust, Cristina Diaz Cid Robbie, added: “One of my biggest professional achievements is to be able to see other registered nurses succeed, shine, and develop.
“Helping others to progress and be better professionals makes me feel fulfilled. A huge congratulations on behalf of the Trust to all five of the graduates.”
