Gold award for Aston Ward at Congleton War Memorial Hospital

16 April 2024

Aston - Gold.jpgStaff on the Aston Ward at Congleton War Memorial Hospital have been recognised for their high standard of patient care, after achieving gold in East Cheshire NHS Trust’s ward accreditation programme.

The Aston Ward is the first ward at the Trust, which manages Congleton War Memorial Hospital, Macclesfield District General Hospital, and Knutsford Community Hospital, to achieve gold.

The ward accreditation programme aims to promote safer patient care, enhance ward leadership, and share best practice between areas. Wards are inspected on a number of criteria including leadership, infection prevention and control, documentation and medicines management, and are awarded either a bronze, silver or gold accreditation.

Jo Hodgkinson, Senior Sister on the Aston Ward said: “The team and I are incredibly proud of achieving gold accreditation and feel it reflects the hard work we put in to provide exceptional care to our patients.

“The staff have worked hard to maintain high standards across mandatory training, and the delivery of one-to-one and group training on the unit has helped towards the safe daily running of the unit and the attainment of the highest award.

“It gives us a huge sense of pride and confidence when welcoming patients and visitors to Aston to explain what the award is and how we’ve achieved it.”

The Aston Ward provides care for patients who are considered to be ready for discharge, and therefore no longer require hospital treatment, but need a longer period of recovery/rehabilitation before being discharged home.

Kate Daly Brown, Director of Nursing and Quality for East Cheshire NHS Trust, said: “Achieving gold in the accreditation scheme is a fantastic achievement and well deserved, a big congratulations to the team on the Aston Ward.

“A gold accreditation means that an area is performing extremely well and exceeding expectations, and I know everyone has worked really hard and contributed to achieve this status and we are extremely proud of everyone.”
