Macclesfield Hospital’s Emergency Department team spread Christmas cheer beyond the wards

23 December 2025

ED Appeal.jpegAmid winter pressures and seasonal challenges, the Emergency Department team at Macclesfield Hospital showed their commitment to the community by bringing festive cheer beyond the hospital walls.

The team came together to create a cart full of toys for children who might otherwise go without presents this Christmas.

They chose to donate their Toy Box Appeal to the Salvation Army Macclesfield, who will distribute the gifts to families in need across the area.

Olivia Thorne, Staff Nurse in ED, said: “We wanted to do something that goes beyond our patients and reaches into the local community.

“Hopefully this will make a huge difference to children who will wake up to hardly anything on Christmas Day.

“Putting a smile on a child’s face this Christmas means so much to us all.”

Every year, the Salvation Army Macclesfield “Be a Star” Christmas Gift Appeal helps bring joy to local families in need.

This year, the appeal supported 198 families, including 368 adults and 344 children, ensuring they had gifts and essentials during the festive season.
