East Cheshire NHS Trust has been offering patients the opportunity to access their hospital appointments and letters online since 2020.

MyCareView is powered by Patients Know Best (PKB), a secure online system which is also being used by other local health and social care providers.

For a step by step guide to help you register using NHS login click here: PKB Manual - NHS App & NHS login (patientsknowbest.com)

After registering you can use PKB via the NHS App. The NHS App can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play

All records held in MyCareView conform to strict NHS security standards, meaning only patients and those they permit to view their records will have access. This puts patients in control of their health and care data on a secure, personal platform, while aiming to provide joined-up care with people or organisations involved in their care.

MyCareView has been fully integrated with NHSApp since 2021 allowing patients to view their GP information and hospital information all in one place, giving you more control, confidence, convenience, and consistency in your care than ever before.

The benefits of using a My Care View (PKB) account are:

  • Accessing your hospital appointments and letters digitally and in real-time
  • Access your GP medical and hospital records in one place
  • Order repeat prescriptions, see your available medicines and place an order
  • Check and record your symptoms, find trusted NHS information on hundreds of conditions and treatments and get instant advice
  • Register your organ donation decision, choose to donate some or all of your organs and check your registration decision
  • The NHS App gives you more control over your health and care, you can use it wherever you are, at any time of the day or night
  • Personal information can be shared with your family, carers and health professionals, this will always be your choice and can be amended at any time
  • Option to keep a health journal
  • You can record your medical information such as allergies or medication you are taking
  • Other letters including inpatient appointments, clinical correspondence and community appointments are planned to be available for later in 2023

FAQs

Other ways to register for PKB

Click here (PKB Manual - How to register (patientsknowbest.com)) for other ways to register.

How will I be notified of new information in my record?

You will be sent an email to the email address you provided when you registered.

What information will be in my record?

You will see the last three years of appointment or visits. Currently, this does not included radiology or community appointments.

The trust is working hard on adding more letters into the portal such inpatients, audiology, pre-operative assessment, antenatal, community and clinical correspondence.

Letters which are not read in the portal will be sent out via post. If the appointment is within 7 days, you will always receive the letter in the post.

You can add your own information if you wish, such as tracking your symptoms or recording medications you are taking. You can also keep your own notes to monitor your condition.

What letters are available in the portal?

Outpatient appointment letters for radiology, gastroenterology, vascular and plastics, general surgery, endocrinology, ENT, cardiology, Care of the Elderly, respiratory, urology, and orthopaedics are currently available. The trust will have completed all outpatient, inpatient and community appointment letters later in 2023, with the addition of clinical correspondence being completed too.

Letters which are not read in the portal will be sent out via post.

If leaflets or booklets are needed, the majority of these will continue to be sent via post or are available on the trusts website  here (Patient Leaflets :: East Cheshire NHS Trust)

You have the option to opt out of PKB by contacting the PKB support team here: Submit a ticket : Patients Know Best

Is my information secure?

Yes. The PKB software meets NHS requirements for health record systems and is fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Only the minimum level of data necessary to verify you has been uploaded. All personal and health information stored is encrypted.

Do I need internet access to use the portal?

Yes, as this is an online service and will require you or, a carer, to have regular internet access to receive your letters and use any additional features.

Do I need an email address to register?

Yes, you can only use one unique email address per registration e.g. you can’t use a family shared email if your family/friend already uses that email for their PKB account. If you are registering via the NHS App, it will automatically use the email address associated with that account.

Can I give a carer or family member access?

If you want the family member or carer to have access to your portal record, they can be added in the “Sharing” section. This will allow them to set up their own account and allow you to control the level of access they have to your record. For more information click here (https://manual.patientsknowbest.com/carer.)

Why is the portal empty?

Some patients may not have any information in their records when they first register, however this will change over time as you visit the hospital for treatment. You can still add your own information, such as tracking your symptoms or recording any medication you take.

My information on the portal is incorrect.

Contact PKB by emailing: Submit a ticket : Patients Know Best to change your information.

Do I have to pay for this service?

No, there is no cost to you. Using the portal will help us to reduce costs such as paper and postage which can be reinvested to provide better care.

Why can’t I see my appointment information?

For patients who visited Macclesfield District General Hospital within the last three years, (from 2020) your historical appointment will be available in PKB. Any future appointment information will show immediately in PKB when an appointment is booked for you. Unfortunately, radiology and community appointments are not yet included.

Who do I contact if I am experiencing technical problems?

For technical issues please email the technical team at PKB help@patientsknowbest.com  or complete this form: Submit a ticket : Patients Know Best. Do not share any personal or clinical information with the team at PKB.

What happens if I don’t want to use the portal?

This is your choice if you want to interact with the hospital in a digital way and requires you to “opt in”. Ignore the texts or emails inviting you to register if you choose not to use this method.

Who do I contact for any issues or queries relating to the portal?

For any queries not covered above, or if you require more support and information (e.g. resetting a password), you can contact PKB at: help@patientsknowbest.com.

Patient Portal and Digital Letters Text Service

Patients at East Cheshire NHS Trust can view and download outpatient appointment letters online instantly when they become available.

Patients who have not yet claimed access to their MyCareView (MCV) record, will receive a text message when a new outpatient letter is posted to them. The message will include a secure link to register for access to your record, you will then be able to view and download appointment letters through MCV.

For patients already using MCV you will receive a notification either via email or through NHS App if you have linked NHS App with MCV. You can read more about MyCareView and NHS App here.

Patients who prefer paper letters can still receive appointments by post. Unless you choose to access and read your letter online within 48 hours of it becoming available, it will still be printed and posted to you.

Digital Letters Text Service – Important Information

  • It is a FREE service, you will not be charged for receiving these texts.
  • If you have given your mobile number to our reception, we will accept this as implied consent that you agree for the Trust to use this number to contact you regarding your outpatient letters and inviting you to access them online.
  • Patients do have the option of opting out of the digital letters service, by notifying a member of the outpatient reception team. Please note, by opting out you will not receive any further invitation to view your letters online via text message.
  • If you choose not to register for your MCV account, you will not be texted about digital letters again for at least six months. You will continue to receive paper letters from us by post.

We have introduced digital letters and text notifications to allow us to:

  • Improve how we communicate with our patients.
  • Deliver letters to patients faster.
  • Reduce confusion from lost letters.
  • Save the NHS money by reducing the amount of paper and stamps used.
  • Reduce our environmental impact.
  • Reduce missed appointments.
