Splash of Pink Ball raises over £23,600 for breast care unit

9 October 2023

Local businesses and the community joined up to splash out in support of Macclesfield Hospital.

On Saturday 23rd September, Gena Moors, a former patient of Macclesfield Hospital hosted her first Splash of Pink Breast Cancer Ball at Shrigley Hall Hotel and Spa which has raised an incredible £23,604.53 for the breast care unit.

Gena, who is married with two children, was diagnosed with breast cancer just before lockdown in 2020 and underwent a lumpectomy. She then had chemotherapy at Macclesfield Hospital. Gena decided to create ‘Splash of Pink’ to say thank you for the care she received.

The night kicked off with the Rock Choir performing as guests arrived, followed by a video of Gena in the Breast Care department, showing the importance of attending your screening appointments. Gena demonstrated how the mammogram machine worked and guests heard from specialists in the department. This was followed by a powerful video from several women and a man, talking about their experiences of breast cancer.

There were performances from Five Town Theatre, which included Gena’s son Ryan, who danced to ‘I’m a survivor’ and then a beautiful performance of ‘Fight Song’.

The event, which 190 guests attended, included fundraising games, ‘waiters that sing’, a raffle, as well as a live and silent auction.

Gena said, “I am extremely passionate about raising these funds and giving something back to Macclesfield hospital as it’s where my own breast cancer journey took place. The evening was a massive success and I have received so many positive comments about it and people asking me when the next one is!

“I enjoyed every second of planning the ball but could not have done it without the amazing people around me. The people and businesses that helped were truly incredible and they are all just wonderful people. Roll on Splash of Pink number 2!”
