What will I learn
This course will provide the underpinning knowledge and skills required to safely perform venepuncture using the BD Vacutainer sample collection system.
Course Content:
- The Anatomy and Physiology of the vein
- Recommended Venepuncture sites
- Equipment required for the procedure
- Correct placement of a tourniquet
- Policies/guidance to minimise cross-infection
- Correct waste disposal
- Recommended order of draw for pathology
- Aftercare advice
- Practice venepuncture skill
You must identify a work based Mentor who is competent in venepuncture. In order to successfully complete this course, your Mentor will be responsible for assessing your practical venepuncture skills
