Health Care Workers whose role involves venous blood sample collection

What will I learn
This course will provide the underpinning knowledge and skills required to safely perform venepuncture using the BD Vacutainer sample collection system.

Course Content:

• The Anatomy and Physiology of the vein
• Recommended Venepuncture sites
• Equipment required for the procedure
• Correct placement of a tourniquet
• Policies/guidance to minimise cross-infection
• Correct waste disposal
• Recommended order of draw for pathology
• Aftercare advice
• Practice venepuncture skill

You must identify a work based Mentor who is competent in venepuncture. In order to successfully complete this course, your Mentor will be responsible for assessing your practical venepuncture skills
