Immunisation Update - Healthcare Support Workers

Who should attend
Health Care Support Workers working within General Practice whose role involves the delivery of immunisations to specific patient groups.

What will I learn
This course reflects the National minimum standards and core curriculum for immunisation training for Healthcare Support Workers (Public Health England, 2015). Health Care Assistants attending this course must have previously successfully completed a two-day Foundation Immunisation Training Course

Course Content:

  • Current issues in influenza, shingles and/or pneumococcal vaccination
  • Recent epidemiology of influenza, shingles and/or pneumococcal disease
  • Any changes to the recommendations or national policy for influenza, shingles and/or pneumococcal immunisation
  • Update on vaccine administration
  • Any changes to legislation relevant to vaccination
  • Review of current practice and identification of areas for improvement
  • Review of support strategies
  • Opportunity to revisit and practice injection technique
  • Q&A session for commonly encountered problems in practice
